Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiologists specialize in clinical exercise programs that aim to restore patients’ optimal function and overall wellness. Exercise Physiology interventions aim to prevent or manage chronic disease, and injury or help with pre and post-surgery through exercise and behavioral changes. Interventions include health and physical activity education, individualized exercise programs, advice, and lifestyle modifications. Programs are individually tailored to each person’s specific needs and tracked closely. 

Pathology domains covered by the services of Accredited Exercise Physiologists include but are not limited to:

  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Pulmonary disease
  • Metabolic disease
  • Neurological disease
  • Musculoskeletal disease (including arthritis, osteoporosis/osteopenia, acute and/or chronic musculoskeletal issues)
  • Depression and other mental health conditions
  • Cancer 
  • Any other conditions for which there is evidence that exercise can improve patients’ clinical status

Accredited exercise physiologists may also assist with:

  • Assessments of functional capacity
  • Advice on lifestyle modification to improve health status
  • Exercise prescriptions for strength and function improvement pre- and post- surgery
  • Workplace assessments.
